In September 2002, the MCP received a broadcasting license from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) for a community radio station for the Powell River district.

After a lot of preparation, time and solicitation for sponsorship funds, a station manager was hired in February to recruit a radio engineer and acquire equipment and start with the actual construction of a radio station. We received a lot of equipment from a Vancouver radio station and along with the equipment purchased the radio station started operating on April 24, 2003.

The designation of our call letters CJMP and band location 90.1 FM were assigned to us along with the height of our transmission tower by Industry Canada. CJMP (JUMP) radio is also on 90.9 Shaw Cable.
